Mitch is a pitcher for the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He has played in Major League Baseball for the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles, and the Lamigo Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Atkins played high school baseball at Northeast Guilford High School in McLeansville, North Carolina. He originally committed to Elon University, but was drafted by the Cubs as the 216th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
